What is AOBT?

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy, an ancient form of barefoot massage using deep compression gliding over the body. Gravitational force is combined with centrifugal and centripetal movements to bring about a structural change in chronic soft tissue damage, providing deep relaxation and stimulate the lymphatic system of the body.

Benefit of AOBT
It provides relief for such conditions as; lower back pain, scoliosis, sciatica, tight hamstrings, helps to elongate the spine and stretch the shortened muscles, release metabolic waste from your tissues and increase your feeling of well being. The biggest is that theses positives changes in the body happen much faster than with regular deep tissue massage.

Adjunct modalities:
AOBT works well with a combination of other modalities such as Trigger Point Therapy, and/or CranioSacral Therapy. To get the best results, many people alternate AOBT sessions with other types of massage.

AOBT Is Great For Women.
The elbow is the strongest part off the body, and that’s what the therapist uses for a deep tissue massage! With women’s muscles being smaller, this may be very painful. Since the foot is much bigger than the elbow (or the Forearm), the pressure is evenly spread over a larger area. It gives the client a deep relaxing massage without the usual discomfort associated with deep tissue massage.

Contraindications
AOBT is not for everyone particularly if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, just had a baby, have a serious heart condition, had a recent surgery (including Lasik), breast implants within nine months, boils, skin lesions, tuberculosis, thrombosis, aneurism, kidney disorders, active phlebitis/cellulites, persons on Coumadin, Lavanox, Heparin, or heavy aspirin, rib fracture, and /or osteoporosis.

As always, if in doubt please contact you physician or other health care provider before booking a session.

What to expect:
In addition, you may be sore and “spacey” after the session, so plan accordingly! After receiving AOBT your back muscles will be very supple and chances of injury are greater. Please do not engage in any vigorous activity, sitting for long periods of time, lifting heavy objects, or drink alcohol within the first 24 hours. The best thing to do would be to hydrate and sleep! Your massage therapist will provide you with written instructions for the follow up care after your session.
